THE ARTS SOCIETY
ESSEX AREA

The Essex Area Team is here to support our twelve local societies.

What does the Area Team do?

We represent The Arts Society in Essex. We provide a two-way line of communication between the societies and The Arts Society headquarters in Guilford Street, London WC1. The Area Chairman reflects the views of the Essex Societies to the National Advisory Council which advises the Chief Executive and the Trustee Board of The Arts Society.

Essex Area is able to help societies with advice and information with back up from The Arts Society’s specialist teams where necessary.

In addition to the Area ChairmanArea Hon Treasurer and Area Hon Secretary the Area has the following roles:

Area Coordinator for Education (ACE)

The ACE organises the Days of Special Interest (DSI) for Area, designed to complement the programmes of the Essex societies or perhaps to mark an important anniversary in the world of the arts. All the societies are invited to advertise the DSIs well in advance to their own members and to bring guests if they wish. Further information about these DSIs can be found on the Events page. There is a charge for the DSIs to cover costs. Non-members are welcome.

The ACE also acts as the Area Trainer, providing information about Training and Information Days for societies’ committee members, where participants have the opportunity to network with members from other societies. As Essex is so close to central London where much of the training takes place we no longer run our own training courses. We would do this however if there were sufficient demand. Please see the Training page for details of The Arts Society training opportunities.

Area Visits Coordinator

In 2018 a highly successful Area visit to Otley Hall in Suffolk was arranged, as well as a trip to Puglia. Future projects will be developed.

Area Coordinator for Heritage Volunteering

Heritage Volunteering is an important part of many societies’ activities, and the Area Coordinator provides support and advice, helping projects get off the ground and arranging meetings of heritage volunteers to socialise and discuss their projects. For more information please see the Heritage Volunteering page.

Young Arts Coordinator

Most of the Essex Societies engage with schools or other organisations to promote understanding and appreciation of the arts. Please see the Young Arts page for more information

Church Recording and Discovery Trails Coordinator

These are important and interesting activities where the opportunity arises to work in teams and learn a great deal about the fabric and furnishings of Essex places of worship. The role provides support for the societies’ Church Recording groups and those creating Discovery Trails in places of worship or other historic buildings.
